VARANASI:
School girls took out a Ganga Jan Chetna rally under the banner of Shiv
Kashi Manch to create awareness among people on Thursday.
The procession to save the Ganga started from Gopiradha Girls School. Placards reading 'Save Ganga from Tehri' and other anti-pollution slogans were carried by the girls. After crossing through different localities including Ravindrapuri, Gurudham, Durgakund Anand Bagh, the procession returned to school and culminated in a meeting.
Addressing the meeting, speakers highlighted the importance of the Ganga and its water. The holy water, which is said to have optimum amount of oxygen, has medicinal values too. The Ganga is not only devout river but also the identity of the country. The Ganga covers a length of 1,400 kilometre and is providing potable water to 35 crore people, but its pollution and Tehri's dam project could lead to serious troubles for people depending on its water. They also blamed the wrong policies for the increasing pollution in the river.
