Story of Descendence of Ganga on Earth

There is a famous story about the descendence of Ganga on earth. King Bhagirath wanted to bring river Ganga on earth for the happiness of his people. So, he performed meditation for many years. Pleased by the worship, lord Brahma fulfilled his wish.
The next issue was about the force of river Ganga. Descending of Ganga shall cause devastation to the ground. And, Ganga shall reach hell. In such a situation, landing of Ganga on earth shall be worthless. All deities thought over it and came to a conclusion that only lord Shiva can control the force of Ganga.
Then Bhagirath worshipped lord Shiva, as he was the only one who could solve this issue.
Pleased by the Bhagirath , lord Shiva said that he would wear Ganga on his head and help him in doing welfare of all beings. Devi Ganga was the eldest daughter of Himalaya. She was proud of her great force and velocity. She thought that she would fall on the head f lord Shiva and take him to hell. Behind this ill feeling was the hidden love of goddess for LORD SHIVA
When lord Shiva came to know about this, he also decided to break her proud feelings and decided to capture Ganga in his hair. When Ganga fell on the head of lord Rudra, she got stuck in the mesh of lord’s hairs and lost her path. Seeing this, Bhagirath again worshiped lord Shiva to give Devi Ganga a path of coming on earth. then lord Shiva left Ganga in the sea. From there Ganga started moving in form of 7 streams on earth.
The 7 currents are Haradini, Pawani, Nalini, Suchkshu, Sita, Sindhu and the 7th one is Ganga. Gangotri rier is the origin place of Ganga.
